The Northern Safari Circuit

Where we go

One circuit, most of the famous names

The Northern Circuit takes in the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Arusha National Park and Kilimanjaro National Park — and, further east, the Usambara Mountains. It is the part of Tanzania that made the country famous, and it is where our guides work every week of the year.

Between them these parks offer the game driving the country is known for, lodges and camps at every level, and natural wonders that hold up in any company — the Ngorongoro Crater above all, a volcanic caldera 610 metres deep whose floor covers 260 square kilometres, and which was voted one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa.

Getting here

Arrive at JRO, and go one of two ways

Nearly every trip on this page starts at the same airport, and splits at the same junction.

01

Fly into Kilimanjaro (JRO)

Almost every guest on the northern circuit lands at Kilimanjaro International, between Arusha and Moshi. We meet you at arrivals; there is nothing to arrange in the terminal.

02

Moshi for the mountain, Arusha for safari

Moshi sits at the foot of Kilimanjaro and is where climbs start. Arusha is the safari town and where our office is. Both are under an hour and a half from the airport.

03

Then west, by road or by air

Tarangire, Manyara and Ngorongoro are a comfortable drive. The Serengeti is either a long, worthwhile day on the road or a one-hour flight — we will tell you which suits your itinerary.

Start here

Tell us which of them you want to see

We will put them in an order that works and tell you which month to come.
